Where's My Laptop?

Marquette 94, No. 2 Connecticut 79

The victory, Marquette's first in the regular season over a team ranked higher than third, spoiled the return of Huskies junior guard Marcus Williams who was suspended for the first semester over the theft of laptops from a dormitory.

The Golden Eagles' dominant play made Williams' return a non-issue. The crowd chanted "Where's my laptop? Where's my laptop?" when Williams first entered the game at the 17:21 mark.

Williams had said he expected that type of reaction after doing community service both on campus and in the legal system.

Williams, the Big East assists leader last season, took it in stride and smiled after a media timeout as someone shouted, "Can you get a printer, too?"

The Golden Eagles are 3-17 against teams ranked No. 1 or No. 2, beating Kentucky twice (1955, 2003) in the NCAA tournament.

Look out for kids who have to shovel snow to play hoops.

They beat us in one of our down years, too (1994). I'm comfortable disclosing this because KY has 3.5 times as many rings as KU.

Isn't there a movie coming out about UK hoops soon? I'm sure you're comfortable with all the rings from that era too.

I just spent ten minutes on the internet trying to find something noteworthy from Kansas' segregated years that I could invalidate in a retort. But then I realized that Kansas (meaning the state, in its entirety) has nothing noteworthy to invalidate, pre or post-desegregation.

Need I remind you that Kentucky is a pejorative, as in Pennsyltucky, the area of Pennsylvania between Philly and Pittsburgh. Nothing can change that, not even the fact I'm from Kansas.

The men's basketball team, currently coached by Bill Self, is a perennial national contender. In addition, Allen Fieldhouse is considered one of the greatest places to play basketball in the nation. Kansas has counted among its coaches Dr. James Naismith (the inventor of basketball), Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Phog Allen (sometimes dubbed "Father of basketball coaching"), and New York Knicks coach Larry Brown.

The Jayhawks have won 4 national championships. They have the third most all-time wins in NCAA history, behind Kentucky and North Carolina. The coaches most responsible for Kentucky and North Carolina's lead in wins are Adolph Rupp and Dean Smith, the two coaches with the most wins in NCAA history. They were both players for Kansas under Phog Allen.
